eLearning & Virtual

MV launches Virtual Learning

  • Why: Indiana Code allows schools to have three eLearning days per school year. After the third eLearning day, MVCSC must provide virtual learning where students attend live, scheduled classes online. If we can’t be in school, live learning is the next best method of learning.

  • When: MVCSC has used two of the three allowable eLearning days and should begin preparing for virtual learning, should a fourth day of cancellation be necessary due to inclement weather.

  • How: Elementary and secondary schools will have a different schedule than the regular class schedule. These are outlined below and will also be communicated on that virtual learning day. The scheduled classes may include breaks and independent study time. Special education teachers will continue to provide student services.

  • Where: Students will be using their Chromebooks at home, attending live, synchronous classes. Links for students to attend their class’s Google Meet will be provided in Canvas or Clever.

  • What: Attendance will be taken in the live classes.

QUESTIONS: If the student or parent/guardian has questions, review the FAQ below. Parents and students may submit technology help desk tickets by emailing TECH HELP DESK. The email address will be monitored from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the virtual learning day.  In the email, please include all relevant information, such as:

  • Student Name
  • Student Building
  • Detailed description of the issue

If there are further questions, please follow the traditional protocol of reaching out to the teacher first. After giving the teacher adequate time to respond, if it is not resolved, then reach out to the school administration, and then the district administration.

School Schedules on Virtual Learning

  • A schedule for Kindergarten through Grade 4, listing subjects and times.

  • A school schedule for Mt. Vernon Intermediate School, listing class times and subjects.

  • A schedule for Mt. Vernon Middle School is displayed, showing class periods and times.

  • A schedule for Mt. Vernon High School, listing class times and activities.

Virtual FAQ

  • Indiana Code allows for 3 asynchronous eLearning days to count towards the required 180 days of school.  Any inclement weather closure after day 3 would require the school day(s) to be added at the end of the school year calendar, or we can have virtual learning instead.

  • The terms are being used interchangeably. Our official designation is Virtual Learning Day, but some systems and reporting tools only offer eLearning Day as an option. Both terms refer to the same instructional format: students learning remotely instead of attending school in person.

  • Students will follow a school schedule and attend virtual classes on Google Meet (a web conferencing service) based on the schedule.

  • Classes will meet via Google Meet.  Students will find their classes on Google Meet by logging into their teachers' Canvas page.

  • See the individual school schedules below.  Students in grades K-4 will begin at 9 a.m., and students in grades 5-12 will start at 10 a.m.

  • Please have your child inform their teacher(s) and use the Technology Helpdesk by emailing TECH HELP DESK. The email address will be monitored from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. during the virtual learning day. In the email, please include all relevant information, such as:

    • Student Name
    • Student Building
    • Detailed description of the issue
  • Please follow the traditional protocol of reaching out to the teacher first, then school administration, then district administration.

  • Students should be dressed appropriately for school (appropriate pajamas are fine).

  • Students are still expected to complete the assigned work for the day.

  • Teachers will be available during their scheduled class time and office hours.

  • It is best if students can be in a location without excess background noise and where they can work effectively on their Chromebooks or other papers (good writing surface, etc.).

  • Preschool students are not subject to virtual learning.
