Mr. Chris Smedley Named as Assistant Superintendent of MVCSC

Mr. Chris Smedley has been named as the Assistant Superintendent for the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC), effective July 1, 2019. Mr. Smedley has been serving as MVCSC’s Chief Financial Officer since September 2017. In addition, he recently served as one of the Interim Co-Superintendents for MVCSC from June through December 2018.


“Mr. Smedley has been an asset to Mt. Vernon with his leadership and students-first attitude,” said Dr. Jack Parker, MVCSC Superintendent. “His significant experience of 17 years as an administrator has prepared him for this district leadership opportunity. He has been commended in previous positions for his positive leadership and implementation of best practices in curriculum and instruction. We are pleased to bring his goal-oriented and practical mindset, along with his professional and ethical (or high integrity) nature in this leadership role.”


Prior to coming to Mt. Vernon, Mr. Smedley was the Principal at Madison-Grant Junior High School and then Junior/Senior High School from 2012-2017. During his tenure, he was awarded the Middle School Principal of the Year for District Six from the Indiana Association of School Principals. He was the Assistant Principal at Madison-Grant High School during the 10 years prior, and also enjoyed his experience there as the Varsity Basketball Coach. Mr. Smedley began his teaching career as a High School Business Teacher at Bluffton High School in 1996 before beginning his tenure at Madison-Grant United School Corporation in 1999.


Mr. Smedley anticipates completing his School Administration Educational Specialist Degree in 2020 and earned a Master of Science in School Administration at Indiana-Purdue Ft. Wayne in 2004. He originally received his Bachelor of Arts in Finance in 1994 and then his teaching license from Ball State University in 1996.


The appointment of Mr. Smedley leaves the Chief Financial Officer position open. MVCSC will be posting the open position on the website in the coming days, with the goal to also commence the new appointment on July 1, 2019.
