MV Staff Lisa Heitman & Brandon Ecker Receive Association Awards
Two incredible Mt. Vernon staff have recently been honored with two amazing accolades. Mrs. Lisa Heitman was named Region 8 District Treasurer of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Business Officials, while Mr. Brandon Ecker, athletic director, was named District 2 Administrator of the Year by the Indiana Basketball Coaching Association.
Lisa Heitman currently works as corporation treasurer at the Mt. Vernon Administrative Service Center. Lisa has worked at Mt. Vernon for 11 years in several departments. She has a strong focus on furthering the district's financial goals by proactively seeking efficient and innovative methods. Those that work with Lisa describe her as trustworthy, diligent and a joy to be around.
When asked about receiving this prestigious award, she stated, "I am extremely honored to have won Region 8 Treasurer of the Year. My motivation is to serve our staff and provide them with the financial resources they need to be successful in their jobs. I am thankful for the encouragement and support I've received throughout my career and I truly enjoy what I do."
Students hold a sign of Mr. Ecker's face in the student section during a football game.
Lisa's educational background is with Purdue University and Indiana Vocational Technical College. She also received the honor of being named building staff of the year for 2023 and 2021.
Brandon Ecker serves as the athletic director at Mt. Vernon High School where he works tirelessly to maintain the programs that provide student athletes with many growth, learning and leadership opportunities. He has worked for Mt. Vernon as the athletic director since 2015 and brings his personal appreciation for his own student athlete experience as a motivation to provide the athletes with a similar growth opportunity. He is even a favorite among the students of MVHS, who held up a large foamboard cutout of his head in the student section at a few of the sporting events this school year.
When speaking of his job, Ecker says, “Education-based athletics played a significant role in my growth as a person and I believe the values that are learned through controlled adversity within competition provide a tremendous opportunity for our students to learn real-life lessons that will become invaluable in their future success as adults. While I appreciate the recognition from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, it is the hard work of many people that makes our department run efficiently. I'm thankful to be in a place with excellent community support and a top-notch team of administrators, teachers, coaches, and support staff."
Brandon also received the Athletic Director of the Year for District IV in 2021 with the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Brandon had a successful tennis tenure during his years at Huntington University where he earned his degree in history and secondary education. After beginning his career as a social studies teacher, he quickly added athletics supervisor to his title. He later earned his master's degree from Western Kentucky.
Mt. Vernon truly has amazing staff who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve the community. Congratulations to Lisa Heitman and Brandon Ecker for earning these two well-deserved awards!
