Mrs. Alissa Lockwood has Been Selected as the Assistant Director of Curriculum
Mrs. Alissa Lockwood has been named the assistant director of curriculum for the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) and will begin this tenure on July 1, 2023, pending approval from the Board of Trustees on Monday, April 17. Lockwood has held a variety of leadership positions in MVCSC and is currently serving as the Mt. Comfort Elementary School principal.
Lockwood possesses many of the leadership qualities, experiences and skills that made her stand out among the 50-plus applicants as the ideal candidate. She has been instrumental in leading Mt. Comfort Elementary School through intentional Professional Learning Communities that are purposed for all students learn at high levels. Her new duties will include supporting and leading our district curriculum and instruction team while working closely with teachers and administrators.
She began her 18-year tenure at Mt. Vernon as a highly effective first and second-grade classroom teacher at Fortville Elementary School in 2005. She moved into the Title 1 coordinator and teacher position in 2012, and then became the assistant principal of McCordsville Elementary School in 2016 where she led RTI teams in creating interventions and evaluating data for increased student success. Lockwood became principal of Mt. Comfort Elementary School in 2019 and facilitated their Highly Effective School Accreditations during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years.
Lockwood shares, “As a Mt. Vernon parent, educator and community member, I am honored to continue my career at Mt. Vernon schools and serve the district in this new role. I will miss the morning hugs, classroom visits and the irreplaceable excitement that surrounds an elementary school as Mt. Comfort is truly a special place filled with staff that go above and beyond for all students.” She continued, “Although I will miss those daily interactions, I am excited that I will be joining the curriculum team and will help continue in our mission to ensure all students learn at a high level. I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with our staff and community while we foster commitment to high student achievement and growth for ALL students.”
Dr. Jack Parker, Superintendent, stated, “Alissa is a proven instructional leader with exceptional communication skills. Her accomplishments in each position she has held demonstrate that she is a data-driven decision maker with a strong focus on curriculum development and instruction. I have full confidence in her ability to support and expand our efforts towards a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students to learn at high levels.”
Lockwood has two Masters of Education degrees in Educational Administration and Supervision as well as an All Grade Reading Specialist License in Elementary Education; both are through Ball State University. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2004 from Purdue University.
The open principal position at Mt. Comfort Elementary School is now posted on the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation’s website: www.mvcsc.k12.in.us/employment. Mt. Vernon anticipates a large number of applicants which will ensure the selection of a top-notch leader for Mt. Comfort Elementary students and staff. A thorough and progressive selection process will begin in late April with screening interviews, and include input from all stakeholders, including staff, parents and principals.
