Dr. Lori Katz is Named Mt. Vernon Middle School Principal
Dr. Lori Katz has been selected as the principal of Mt. Vernon Middle School for the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation. Pending board approval on April 17, she will begin this tenure this summer. Dr. Katz is currently serving the Greenfield-Central Community Schools as their Director of Teaching and Learning.
With a vast educational experience through three school districts, Dr. Katz comes to Mt. Vernon with strong leadership skills. In her role at Greenfield-Central Community Schools, she has broadened and deepened professional efficacy in Professional Learning Communities for both teachers and administrators, as well as overseen all K-12 English learner programming and testing. She also has substantial experience in grant awards, including the Postsecondary Ready Investigative Mathematics Experience, STEM Acceleration Grant, PLTW Gateway, and more.
Dr. Katz shares, “Some of us are built to work with middle school students, families and educators. From my first days in the classroom, I have been one of those people and often recharge in the buildings that housed our 10-14 year old students. The vast majority of my career has been spent serving those in the middle grades, and I look forward to working collaboratively with the staff, students and Mt. Vernon Middle School community.”
Prior to Greenfield-Central, Dr. Katz gained much leadership experience at Carmel Clay Schools. She served as the Clay Middle School assistant principal from 2012 through 2018 with over 1,400 students. In that role, she co-planned and facilitated district-wide professional development, as well as co-teaching implementation. She also served multiple years as AdvancEd Team Member for School Accreditation.
During her 12 years at Carmel Clay, she also served as a supervisor of learning, international baccalaureate coordinator, literacy coach, and English Language Arts teacher. Dr. Katz also worked in Lansing, Michigan as a communication and collaboration teacher for two years.

Dr. Katz received her Ph.D in curriculum, instruction and media technology from Indiana State University in 2018. She received her masters degree from Butler University in educational administration, and prior to that she received her bachelors degree in secondary education and English at Ball State University.
