Brooke Tharp Named MVHS Principal
The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation has selected Mrs. Brooke Tharp to be the Mt. Vernon High School principal. If approved by the MVCSC Board of Trustees on March 27, Mrs. Brooke Tharp will begin this new contract on July 1, 2023. Tharp’s educational career brings over 29 years to this leadership position with over 20 of them as a special education and English teacher.
Mrs. Tharp is currently serving her second year as the Mt. Vernon Middle School principal. During this tenure, she led the school through an expansion of Professional Learning Communities, the implementation of Trust-Based Relational Intervention, supported high-value instructional strategies and initiatives to retain staff and hire the best candidates.
Tharp shares, “I am focused on transformational and servant leadership, combined with a collaborative, team-centered approach. Building and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders is a priority for me, as well as supporting a shared vision for high student achievement and growth that fosters a supportive environment for students.” She continued, “As a Mt. Vernon parent, community member and administrator, having the opportunity to be a part of Mt. Vernon High School’s success is very exciting and I look forward to serving our community in this new role.”
Prior to being principal at Mt. Vernon Middle School, Tharp served as the Mt. Vernon High School assistant principal where she was heavily involved in the crisis prevention and safety team, as well as their Professional Learning Communities. Her interpersonal relationship skills and experience leading curriculum development, instructional practice, testing and scheduling were a few of the reasons she was selected for that position.
Tharp has shown leadership throughout her educational career. She served as the Special Education Chair when she was a teacher at Mt. Vernon High School and represented the department with building initiatives.
As she brings her core values of integrity, a strong work ethic and positivity into her various roles with students, staff and parents. Tharp has a strong desire to lead and develop skills in others. She believes it is important to grow professionally to best serve students and staff.

Her collaborative style and high-quality communication will help lead our amazing high school as they continue to grow and succeed.”
Tharp is currently pursuing her doctorate of Education Administration at Indiana State University. She also holds a master’s of education from Butler University and a bachelor's degree in education from Indiana University. Tharp also holds an Indiana building-level administrator’s license and a professional educator’s license.
