Hello! My name is Ben Batman and I am the music teacher at Mt. Comfort Elementary School. I am a 2011 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, and have been a music teacher for four years. I am thrilled to be at Mt. Comfort for this school year.
In the music classroom, students will perform a variety of songs, play various rhythmic and melodic instruments, develop the foundations for music literary, and experience dances from various cultures. All of these experiences will aim on preparing your child to become a tuneful, beatful, and artful musician. I will also heavily use the Orff Schulwerk approach within my classroom. Orff Schulwerk is a way to teach and learn music. It is based on things children like to do: sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance, and keep a beat on anything near at hand. These instincts are directed into learning music by hearing and making music first, then reading and writing it later. This is the same way we all learned our language. For more information about Orff Schulwerk, visit www.aosa.org.
I am excited to learn and grow with your child this year at Mt. Comfort. If you have any questions or concerns for me please feel free to contact me. I’m looking forward to a great year!
