MVCSC Superintendent Dr. Parker is sharing weekly 3-minute videos as updates on the comprehensive preparation of the Task Force. Please take a moment to learn how MVCSC plans for the healthiest and safest environment possible for our students and staff.

Dr. Parker's Weekly Video #10 - 8/14/2020

  • Superintendent Dr. Parker asks families to have patience with transportation, especially during the first week of school. There are significant changes for the buses this year, as well as additional vehicles for car rider lines.
  • Students are expected to stay in their assigned seats on the bus and wear their masks for the duration of the ride and beyond.
  • Students are asked not to congregate before school to mitigate contagion.
  • MVCSC is making every attempt possible to keep in-person school open as long as possible.
  • MVCSC staff is excited for school to begin on August 17, 2020!

Video #9 - 8/7/2020

  • One week away! School begins Monday, August 17.
  • MVCSC Superintendent Dr. Parker shares information about how Mt. Vernon High School will be starting school on a hybrid schedule due to the nature of their unique, comprehensive schedule.
  • He also addresses trigger points for other school schedule changes/closings. We can use the hybrid schedule in other schools if we have 15% or more in other schools. 
  • If we have 20% or more absent due to any reason (including the flu), that is our trigger point to close school.
  • If you have any COVID-19 symptoms or are not feeling well for any reason,, please stay home.

Dr. Parker's Back-to-School Video #5 - 7/10/2020

  • See one of MV’s new fine-mist foggers in action. They will be used on buses, athletic facilities, and in schools. Here are the solution details:

    • The Covalent Clean Hand Sanitizer is a medical-grade. This product is 70% ethyl alcohol (antiseptic) and CDC recommends at least 60% ethyl alcohol. Ingredients: ethyl alcohol, water, glycerin, hydrogen peroxide, copolymer thickener.

    • The Ecosafe disinfectant & sanitizer is an organic, environmentally friendly, nontoxic, nonflammable, and completely biodegradable solution that is non-corrosive for all equipment and can be applied by wiping, spray or fogging. 

      • It is used in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, dental offices, and other medical facilities.

      • Ecosafe disinfectant has a 2-year shelf life and kills bacteria, fungi, mold, and viruses. The ingredients are: water (99.77%), Hypochlorous Acid (.046%), hypochlorite ion (.00418%), ozone & CIO & chlorous acid (<.0003%) , and salt (.2%)

      • It is EPA registered

      • FDA approved

      • Certified organic by OMR

  • Need parents to complete the survey by July 13. (It asks whether children will be in-person/virtual for the first semester, busing questions, and feedback on the draft).

Dr. Parker's Back-to-School Video #4 - 7/2/2020

  • Parents are requested to fill out one survey per child by Monday, July 13. Parents will be asked:

    • Will your child be attending in-school or virtually 

    • Will your child be riding the bus

    • What are your thoughts on the DRAFT Back-to-School Reentry Plan

    • Do you plan to utilize the YMCA before or after school childcare program

  • ​​​​​​​Information about masks for the 2020-2021 school year

  • IHSAA released new guidelines for virtual students in regards to extracurricular activities

Dr. Parker's Back-to-School Video #3 - 6/26/2020

  • The Back-to-School Taskforce recently met to finalize the draft of the Reopening Schools Plan which will be distributed on July 1. We look forward to parent/guardian feedback on this draft.

  • Cleaning and disinfection supplies have been delivered to MV

    • 50-gallon drums of disinfection solutions

    • Foggers for buses, athletic equipment, playgrounds and classrooms

    • Hand sanitizer stations in every classroom and high-traffic areas

    • Cleanliness and sanitation are very important to MV

  • We are looking forward to school starting on July 29


Dr. Parker's Video #2 - 6/19/2020

  • MVCSC will support students' learning whether they are in school or working virtually at home.

  • Teachers have been planning and preparing curriculum for next year so all students can learn at high levels.

  • MVCSC is collaborating with the Hancock County Health Department and all county superintendents.

  • The Task Force is providing great input for the draft of the Reopening MVCSC Plan to come out on July 1. A survey will follow for parents/guardians and the final plan will be distributed on/by July 15.




Superintendent Dr. Parker's First Weekly Video Includes:

  • ​​​​​​​With a focus on student safety and learning, we will be accommodating all students regardless of their ability to attend school live or virtually beginning next school year.

  • It is our intention to begin the school year on Wednesday, July 29 for all students.

    • Students who are medically fragile, living with family members who are medically fragile, or those who simply cannot attend in-person, will receive virtual learning opportunities delivered by a Mt Vernon teacher.

    • All students who are able to attend in-person will be able to do so 5-days per week.

  • With the support of many stakeholders, including our broad-based Back to School Task Force, we are developing plans to provide every reasonable precaution to keep students and staff safe.

    • Our plan is to provide a DRAFT Plan for review by all parents on July 1 with input collected through a survey before refinements are made and the final plan is communicated by July 15.
