Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation was pleased to host a free breakfast event to commemorate the Anniversary of September 11, 2001, to honor those who fought, and to thank veterans, first responders, active military, and their families throughout our community. Our local heroes came together in Mt. Vernon High School’s cafeteria to solemnly remember the events of 9/11.

At this event, the Band of Marauders performed the Star Spangled Banner, followed by a speech given by Superintendent Dr. Parker, where he recalled the events of 9/11 and thanked the heroes who save lives every day. In his speech, Dr. Parker said, “The sacrifices and service of our active military, veterans, and first responders deserve much more than our thanks. They deserve our support.” The support and gratitude shown in the high school cafeteria this morning was definitely felt throughout the attendees. Following Dr. Parker’s address, MVHS’s Chamber Choir sang “The Race is Run” to once again honor our heroes.

Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is grateful and appreciates all those who were able to attend the event where a love for our country and those who serve was shared by all.

Dr. Parker
