The Mt. Vernon High School Band program has recently received a generous $1,800 NineStar Grant through Operation RoundUp. The band program intends to use these funds to start a bucket drumming program for Mt. Vernon 4th and 5th graders.
Jackie Nason, MVHS Band Director, shared that with the funds, “We'll invite the kids out for a few evening rehearsals and then get them together with the pep band for a home basketball game. Even though we don't know what this winter will look like, we will at least have the funding to take care of purchasing all the equipment needed, so we'll be ready when the time comes! ”
This donation is very important to the MVHS band program because there will be more kids introduced to high school band experiences in their formative years. This program could increase the number of students who decide to join band their freshman year because they were exposed to it early on.
The integration of band students through middle school and high school is what makes the Marauder Band program special. Younger students will really get a good look into what musical interests they could pursue in their future and experience what high school band is like. Simultaneously, the older students are able to take up leadership positions in setting examples for the younger students.
Mt. Vernon greatly appreciates NineStar for their continued support of our programs and our students.
