The Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) Girls Soccer team was one of two Indiana teams to recently be recognized with the Team Pinnacle Award for the 2018-2019 season. To be considered for this award, the teams must have received a platinum, gold, silver, or bronze version of the High School Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award, achieved the High School or College Team Academic Award, and winning percentage of 75% or higher during the respective season.
This award recognizes the MVHS Girls Soccer Team’s high level of fair play, athletic excellence, and outstanding academic performance. MVHS is one of only two high school teams in Indiana to receive this award out of 33 total high schools and 19 colleges in the nation who qualified.
Each honoree must demonstrate strong academic success and have been a recipient of the Team Academic Award with a minimum grade point average of 3.25; the MVHS Lady Marauders Soccer Team had a 3.63 grade point average in 2018-2019.
Coach Steve Williams admires his team’s optimism and competitiveness, as well as their willingness to extend their integrity and caring to other teams.
Williams stated, “I was proud to be connected to a bunch of great kids and a coaching staff that were all together about doing it right. This award is a great affirmation about the quality of these kids and knowing that they will succeed in life, far after they leave the field.”
The teams are to be formally recognized at the High School Coaches Breakfast on Friday, Jan 17, 2020. The High School Coaches Breakfast will be part of the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Baltimore, MD.
The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation commends the MVHS Lady Marauders Soccer Team for representing our community each day as outstanding athletes, citizens, and as an example of strong ethics and academic success.
