With Indiana’s unpredictable weather, Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) parents/guardians should be prepared with childcare plans for school cancellations and multiple two-hour delays. In the unlikely event that we have more than six eLearning days per year, MVCSC has developed guidelines to ensure we have at least 174 (out of 180) days of in-school instruction. Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, we will try to have no more than six cumulative eLearning days per school year. Additional measures will be taken in the 2020-2021 school year so there are no more than three consecutive eLearning days. These guidelines will allow MVCSC to achieve the best learning experiences for our students by ensuring we will have at least 174 days (out of 180) of in-school instruction for all students.
For the 2019-2020 School Year:
No More Than Six Cumulative eLearning Days per School Year in 2019-2020
In the rare case of having more than six eLearning days per year, the following parameters will be in effect for the 2019-2020 school year:
If the sixth cumulative eLearning day is on or before April 7, 2020, then the regularly scheduled April 8 eLearning day will become an in-school instruction day. If the seventh cumulative eLearning day is on or before February 13, 2020, that day would become a snow day and February 17, 2020 will be an in-school instruction day. If the seventh cumulative eLearning day is on or after February 14, than that day would become a snow day and May 29, 2020 will be an in-school instruction day.
9/25/19 - Planned eLearning Day
1/7/20 - Snow Day eLearning Day
1/23/20 - Snow Day eLearning Day
2/6/20 - Snow Day eLearning Day
2/7/20 - Snow Day eLearning Day
3/9/20 - Snow Day eLearning Day
4/8/20 - Planned eLearning Day TURNED INTO IN-SCHOOL MAKE-UP DAY
For the 2020-2021 School Year:
No More Than Six Cumulative eLearning Days per School Year in 2020-2021
The same guideline allowing no more than six cumulative eLearning Days will also be in effect for the 2020-2021 school year with the following dates:
If the sixth eLearning day is on or before April 6, 2021, MVCSC will change April 8, 2020 to an in-school instruction day.
If school is cancelled causing a seventh day or beyond of eLearning, that date would become a snow day and the following dates would become in-school day(s), in order of the earliest opportunity:
No More Than Three Consecutive eLearning Days in 2020-2021
MVCSC recognizes that more than three days of eLearning is a challenge for many students and staff to achieve the optimal education Mt. Vernon provides all learners. For the school year 2020-2021, there will be additional preventive actions to make sure there are no more than three consecutive eLearning days. This is to ensure each student’s academic success.
MVCSC recognizes that these scenarios are unlikely based on the history of our cancellations, but with the temperamental weather in Indiana, it is best to be prepared. MVCSC strives to provide each student with a high level of learning; these new guidelines will help ensure all students experience an optimal educational experience.
