Dodd Named as Mt. Vernon High School Principal

Mr. Casey Dodd

Mr. Casey Dodd has been named as the Mt. Vernon High School Principal and will begin his tenure on July 1, 2019. He has held a variety of leadership positions in all grade levels at Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation. Mr. Dodd most recently served the previous two years as the Mt. Comfort Elementary Principal and the last year as the district’s Title One Coordinator.

In his first year as principal at Mt. Comfort Elementary School, the letter grade from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) was raised. The increase was likely in part due to data tracking systems and analysis of teacher performances led by Mr. Dodd. The academic measurements continued to increase during his principalship and the 97% attendance rates were maintained.

Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker states, “Mr. Dodd has led his staff with a very positive and team-oriented culture. He has been an outstanding principal and provided an accountable, productive environment at Mt. Comfort Elementary School where students have thrived. We are excited for his leadership to expand Mt. Vernon High School’s opportunities and continue their success.”

Prior to his time at Mt. Comfort Elementary School, Mr. Dodd served as an Assistant Principal at Mt. Vernon Middle School during 2016-2017 where the school also raised their IDOE letter grade. Mr. Dodd created and led professional development sessions on a variety of topics including classroom management, educational technology integration, and the effective use of student data.

From 2011 through 2016, Mr. Dodd was rated a highly effective English Teacher at Mt. Vernon High School where he instructed students in grades 9 through 12. While he served at Mt. Vernon High School, he helped to develop curriculum guides for various English courses and was a peer mentor for new teachers. Mr. Dodd also served as the Varsity Girls’ Soccer Coach for seven years.

Mr. Dodd began a strong teaching career as an Eighth Grade Language Arts Teacher at Mt. Vernon Middle School from 2004 through 2011. He quickly rose in leadership as he served as a department head and instructional team leader.

Mr. Dodd states, “During my 15 years at Mt. Vernon, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with some amazing people at all grade levels within the corporation. I have had wonderful experiences at each building and in each role in which I have served. I have experienced the Mt. Vernon educational program from start to finish and have learned so many valuable lessons along the way. While I have loved everything about my experience at Mt. Comfort Elementary and Mt. Vernon Middle School, I look forward to returning to Mt. Vernon High School to serve the students, families, staff, and community.”

Mr. Dodd will be replacing Mr. Greg Roach, who has accepted another position in a different district. In his Mt. Vernon tenure, Mr. Roach left a legacy of leadership as he has led the Mt. Vernon High School ISTEP Pass Rates to increase over 21% since 2015, as well as achieved an “A” School six of the last seven years.

The open principal position at Mt. Comfort Elementary School will be posted on the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation’s website: www.mvcsc.k12.in.us/employment. MVCSC anticipates a large number of applicants which will insure the selection of a top-notch leader for Mt. Comfort Elementary staff and students.
