Believe it or not, Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation staff have saved yet another student's life from choking! Another staff at Fortville Elementary School, Mrs. Nikki Privett, a fifth grade teacher, saved Micah Tsamwa's life after choking on a piece of pizza.
It was at the end of the fun-filled field day when students were allowed to get a second piece of pizza. Micah began to choke and ran up to a teacher, Mrs. Nikki Privett. Privett said "Micah Tsamwa (5th) was choking on a piece of pizza and ran towards me. (I was standing at the door of my class). I spun him around flipped his arms up and did the Heimlich. He was coughing and calmed down after."
Micah's mother, Samantha Hannah, said "I received a call before the end of school and they told me the story. I am so grateful to Mrs. Privett for saving his life! Micah was still a little shaken up so she walked him to the student pick-up line."
Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is proud that our staff consistently have the safety of students always on the top of their mind. Mrs. Privett's quick-thinking resulted in saving a child's life, and we are all thankful for the positive outcome.
