FES & MES Celebrated "Kindy 500"

FES & MES Celebrated "Kindy 500"

Fortville Elementary School and McCordsville Elementary School recently celebrated the month of racing by hosting "Kindy 500."  All kindergartners decorate a box as a race car, and race or take a lap in front of an audience of parents.  The festivities end with medals, milk, and lots of smiles.

Fortville Elementary School's "Kindy 500" began with the choir singing the National Anthem, followed by a "pace car" (decorated bike) with Art Teacher Mr. Reifel leading the first lap.  Each child took a parade lap waving to the audience and then each class took one more lap.  All participants received a medal and milk and had the opportunity to kiss the bricks.  The kindergartners got into the spirit the day before with an official Pace Car and several 500 Princesses visiting.

McCordsville Elementary School hosted their "Kindy 500" with Indy 500 Broadcaster Paul Page announcing each race.  An official pace car and several 500 Princesses helped launch the day with a parade into the gym.  From there each kindergartner competed and ran the stretch of the gym wearing their "cars."  The winner, Leo Manor, was awarded a trophy, ribbon, milk and special pin from Paul Page.  Former Mt. Vernon High School graduate Kylee Stewart was the 500 Princess who had the honors of awarding the winner with all his goods.
