MVCSC Launches K-12 Summer School for Enrichment & Remediation

The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) will host summer school for current grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.  Both remediation and enrichment will be provided in the content areas of reading, language arts and mathematics, as well as endless class options for high school credit.  


Applications for enrollment should be returned to the student’s current school by May 6, 2016.  There is no cost for this program for currently enrolled MVCSC students. Students not currently enrolled at Mt. Vernon Community Schools in grades 9-12 are invited to attend; $50 per course (two courses maximum, online only).  Enrollment applications with complete details are located on each school’s website under the “Parents” drop-down.  


Transportation will be provided to and from centralized bus stops for Kindergarten through 8th Grades at: Mt. Comfort Elementary School, McCordsville Elementary School, and Memorial Park in Fortville.  The pickup time will be approximately 8 a.m. and the return time is approximately noon.  There will be no transportation provided for high school students.


Attendance, dress code and discipline rules for all grades will all follow the 2015-2016 Student/Parent Handbook.  For additional details please see the enrollment applications linked HERE and under “Parents” on www.mvcsc.k12.in.us.


Kindergarten - 5th Grades:
The elementary summer school for all current K-5th graders will be held at Fortville Elementary School in a power semester from June 6 - 17.  The class size will be 15-20 students, and a certified, highly qualified teacher will be assigned to each class providing remediation or enrichment of specific skill sets.


6th - 8th Grades:
Summer school classes will be held at the high school for all current 6th - 8th graders in a power semester from June 6 - 17.  Summer school staff will provide a program based on student needs in a class setting of 15-20 students.  Current middle school students also have the opportunity to take high school (credit-bearing) classes, which would follow the high school timeline and criteria below.  


9th - 12th Grades:
Any high school summer class available in PLATO may be taken online between June 6 - July 22 (with the exception of Physical Education, which will be at the high school every day June 6-July 1 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.)  Students may sign up and complete multiple courses, and will have their Chromebooks returned to them to complete the courses.  To enroll, students should email or speak to their counselor by Friday, May 6th.  Transportation will not be provided for high school summer school students.
