As students were preparing for ISTEP, Mt. Vernon staff was supporting students' efforts in a nurturing way while subduing any anxieties. From cheering students in a hallway, to a lip dub video gone viral, to a supporting letter mailed to each student, Mt. Vernon staff let each child know how important they are.
Fortville Elementary School - Kindergarten through 2nd grade lined the hallways to cheer on the 3rd-5th graders chanting "Do your best on the test".
McCordsville Elementary School - Staff sent a unique letter to each student stating they know students can do anything and be anything, and that a test does not define them. The letter encourages them to do their personal best at every task, and lets them know how amazing they are. All teachers signed the letter.
Fortville Elementary School - A visit from Master
Lee and Master Jay from Master Yoo's Tae Kwon Do presented to FES the Korean philosophy of hard work, perseverance, and a "never give up attitude." Their message encouraged students to transfer that philosophy as they take the ISTEP test. Students saw the masters breaking a board, as well as students taking a turn.
Fortville Elementary School also put together a "lip dub" to Smash Mouth's "All Star" song. The video travels through hallways with many students and teachers, giving the students confidence and showing all the preparations.
All schools had Motivational Speaker Kevin Wanzer presenting to students to encourage positive choices, choose love and to support one another and our differences..
