Elem Grant & Imagination Library Have Commonality

What do new elementary playground equipment and early childhood literacy initiatives/Imagination Library have in common? The Hancock County Community Foundation (HCCF)! In a recent Y-GIVE Grant, all three Mt. Vernon Elementary Schools will split a grant to go towards playground equipment and educational materials.  The four-square courts, hopscotch, clocks, a special needs swing and math games will collectively enhance the educational and recreational tools students use in the school setting.  These new assets will add some additional structural activity to the students’ recess.

HCCF has partnered with Imagination Library, a Dolly Parton initiative to aid early childhood literacy. All Hancock County children enrolled at birth will have a (free) book mailed to them each month through age 5, for a total of 60 books prior to kindergarten.  Enrollment forms can be found at Fortville-Vernon Township Library, Hancock County Public Library, and online linked HERE.  Enrollment forms must be returned to the Hancock County Public Library via mail at: 900 W. McKenzie Rd., Greenfield, IN 46140, email- childrens@hcplibrary.org, or fax- 317-462-5711.

Imagination Library is a gift from the community to the children of a community.  Although books are free to families, the community bears a financial responsibility.  HCCF is working with the community to build a $2 million endowment to sustain the expenses of the program, 22% of which has been raised.  All gifts will be MATCHED .50 for $1 as long as match money remains or until March 31, 2016, whichever comes first.

During the month of March, Mt. Vernon is hosting penny wars in Kindergarten through 7th Grade, with the winning homeroom per building receiving a pizza party.  The high school will have a scheduled day to purchase ice cream served by administration for a $1 donation to Imagination Library.  Additional monetary gifts can be made to: HCCF-IL Fund at 312 E. Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140, or on-line at https://givehcgrowhc.org/imagination-library-donate-now.

Another way to support Imagination Library is to join the Bowling Fundraiser on April 17 at Strike Force Lanes in Greenfield.  See participation options linked HERE.

Patrons can also Dine to Donate and “Show the Love” through March 25.  Consider taking the family out to dinner on a selected day/restaurant, and 10%-20% of the total bill will be donated to Imagination Library.  Be sure to bring in the new and revised Dine to Donate flyer linked HERE.
