Mt. Vernon Schools' Philanthropic Efforts Impact Community

During November and December, Mt. Vernon Community Schools’ philanthropic efforts impacted the local community and beyond.  These endeavors taught students about the personal rewards of charity and thinking about others. Staff and students united by giving to others in these various ways:

 

Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS)

  • Three MVHS students created a Little Free Library for each of the three elementary schools
  • Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) collected items for “Cancer Care Bags”to help those receiving treatment
  • MVHS collected over 500 pairs of socks for the Hope House in Hancock County
  • MVHS Wrestling Team rang bells for the Salvation Army while singing carols

 

Mt. Vernon Middle School (MVMS)

  • The 8th Grade Academy basketball team rang bells for the Salvation Army
  • Students donated 4,933 canned/boxed goods for the Gleaners/MVCSC Food Pantry
  • Student Council made “Blessing Bags” for the homeless (personal care items, snacks, etc.)
  • MVMS donated 96 toys for the Toys for Tots program
  • Students purchased bandanas representing a specific cancer awareness; proceeds went to the American Cancer Society
  • MVMS girls basketball team carved pumpkins with the Village of Merici
  • The Wrestling Team rang bells for the Salvation Army

 

Fortville Elementary School (FES)

  • Staff and students collected toys for the Toys for Tots program
  • FES staff adopted four local families to support during the holidays

 

McCordsville Elementary School (MES)

  • Students raised $3,150 for Make-a-Wish
  • Collected non-perishable goods for the Angel Connection Food Drive
  • MES students and staff collected toys for the Toys for Tots program

 

Mt. Comfort Elementary School (MCE)

 
  • Collected over 600 pairs of socks for the homeless
  • A second grader has collected 502 blankets for the homeless at Wheeler Mission
  • Students and staff donated toys for the Toys for Tots program

 

Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation Administration Team

  • Administration staff supported a shopping spree for a local child in need
