Free Meals for ALL MVCSC Students
MVCSC is pleased to announce that the USDA has approved a nationwide waiver due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that ALL students can receive FREE meals at school. The USDA waiver states this program is currently in effect “until June 30, 2021 or until funding runs out.”
Breakfasts and lunches are available for hybrid and virtual students; see details below.
MVCSC is encouraging ALL students to take advantage of this free meals program; you will be supporting federal funding of the MVCSC Food Service Department with every meal distributed.
STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE 1 FREE BREAKFAST AND 1 FREE LUNCH PER SCHOOL DAY.
There will be no food service during breaks.
Meals must meet the USDA guidelines and MVCSC has to follow these guidelines in order for meals to be free. The USDA wants all meals that are funded by the government to meet certain nutrition requirements. A school cannot be reimbursed by the USDA for parts of a meal, the meal must be a complete meal.
High/Middle School- All meals must contain at least 3 components, one must be a fruit or vegetable. As always, we will ensure that all students who purchase an entrée will have the minimum choices necessary to be able to qualify as a free meal. For example, if a student chooses a sandwich entrée, they will be asked to also choose a fruit or vegetable to make it a full meal. Students are allowed to get both a fruit and vegetable (up to 2 each) at no charge, and milk is optional.
A La Carte Items - These items will still be an additional charge and include: extra entrees, milk (all schools), and snacks/drinks (High/Middle School). Menus can be found on our website under the Food Service & Menus page.
Elementary/Preschool – All meal items are placed on the tray for all students and qualify as a complete meal. Those wanting food for virtual days Tuesdays & Thursdays will be dismissed 5-10 minutes early on Wednesdays (in staggered order to maintain social distancing) to pick up Thursdays and the following Tuesday’s breakfasts/lunches in the cafeteria and take it home. Teachers will be submitting their students' food counts to cafeterias as they regularly do.
Full-Time Virtual Students - MVCSC will offer weekly distribution of pre-ordered meals for full-time virtual students ONLY on Tuesdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Vernon High School, door #7, but you MUST pre-order. Virtual students may receive 5 free breakfasts and 5 free lunches every week. The link to pre-order meals will be active Thursdays and closes Saturdays at noon. There will not be any food service during school breaks. Only the student or their parent/guardian are allowed to pick up the pre-ordered meals on December 1, 8, 15.
MVHS Hybrid Students – MVCSC will offer bi-weekly distribution of pre-ordered meals for hybrid students ONLY on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Mt.
