MVCSC School Board Approves Future Growth Plan

MVCSC Future Growth Plan

At the March MVCSC School Board Meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker presented the Future Growth Plan that the MV Community Champions developed through an eight month process. The MVCSC School Board unanimously passed the 10-year Future Growth Plan that will see Mt. Vernon through its imminent growth. Within the next 10 years, the Future Growth Plan will have Mt. Vernon:

  • Converting Fortville Elementary School (FES) back into an intermediate school and replacing FES with either new construction or a complete renovation to the current administration building (also the former FES building).
  • Building additional classrooms to the future intermediate school (currently FES) as well as the high school and middle school to manage increased enrollment.

The eight month Mt. Vernon Community Champions (MVC2) initiative began in August with 317 community members providing input on the future of Mt. Vernon Schools. The MVC2 Advisory Committee met nearly monthly and included a variety of civic leaders, farmers, staff, students, community leaders, and parents. The MVC2 Advisory Committee reviewed input from the MVC2 August meeting, as well as the data from the 240 MVC2 members who attended the January meeting. The Advisory Committee evaluated in-depth information on MVCSC finances, operations, and much more.

MVC2 has dialed into the community's wishes, which includes a future grade configuration that brings an intermediate school back to our district.  Our future grade configurations (several years down the road) will be:

  • Elementary: Grades K-4
  • Intermediate: Grades 5 & 6
  • Middle School: Grades 7 & 8
  • High School: Grades 9-12.

MVCSC would like to sincerely thank all our community members that participated and shared their thoughts in developing the future of Mt. Vernon. The future is bright for our Marauders!
