Finishing the 2019-2020 School Year
Though MVCSC has finished off the 2019-2020 academic school year, there is still more to be done as the school year officially comes to a close and as preparation for the 2020-2021 school year begins for students on August 17.
Chromebooks: As opposed to previous years, MVCSC will not be collecting Chromebooks from the 2019-2020 school year, with the exception of graduates and any students not returning next year.
Graduates and students not returning to Mt. Vernon for the 2020-2021 school year should use the school's open dates/times below to return their Chromebooks as well as Chromebook chargers and any library books. For additional information and maps, please look for the communication previously sent from your school. Any questions should be directed to your school principal.
Desk/Locker Belongings Pick Up: The scheduled dates to pick up your student's belongings from the 2019-2020 school year have now passed. If you were not able to attend those dates and still need to pick up belongings or drop off library books, please contact your school principal to make other arrangements. When picking up or dropping off anything to the school, MVCSC asks that all families follow the CDC’s recommendations regarding social distancing and personal protective equipment when visiting the schools.
2020-2021 School Year
Back-to-School Task Force - With student and staff health and safety being the top priority, MVCSC is working tirelessly to prepare for a safe reopening of Mt. Vernon Schools. MVCSC's Back-to-School Taskforce worked hard to develop safe reopening plans for the 2020-2021 school year. The Taskforce consisted of about 25 people with different roles at MV to help provide a variety of perspectives and input.
The Back-to-School Task Force is responsible for providing the safest and healthiest environment for MV students and staff. After reviewing reputable sources and best practices, the Task Force met virtually every week to discuss important topics such as: how and when to use disinfectants, modified student schedules to maintain proper social distancing, school lunches, special programs, barriers (plexiglass, masks, etc.), and many other topics.
The final Back-to-School Plan was distributed July 15 and can be found on the "School Preparations for COVID-19 Challenges" website article.
Virtual Centralized Registration: The Virtual Centralized Registration has been canceled due to school being pushed back.
Returning Students Registration: All MV parents/guardians need to register returning students through their Skyward account after Monday, July 13 at 9 a.m. It is important registration be completed PRIOR to the first day of school.
Online Kindergarten Registration: It is crucial that all kindergarten parents/guardians register their students for the upcoming school year so that MV can prepare enough teachers to keep the class size low. Registering allows MV teachers to provide the best learning environment for their class size. MVCSC will have full-day kindergarten classes only.
On or before August 1, 2020, students must be five years old to attend kindergarten. Please click HERE for details on the links to register.

School Supply Lists:
Parents/guardians should check school supply lists on their school websites linked below.
Early Release Wednesday: A major change for the 2020-2021 school year will be the implementation of an Early Release Wednesday, as opposed to Delayed Start Wednesday in previous school years. The first and last Wednesday of the school year will be regular release (no Early Release Wednesday). If there happens to be a 2-hour delay on a Wednesday, all MVCSC schools will follow the 2-hour delay schedule and there will be no Early Release Wednesday schedule for that particular day.
After-school care through the YMCA will be offered at the middle school and all three elementary schools. MVHS and MVMS will host after-school study tables for students participating in athletics or other regular after-school activities. If your student is not participating in an after-school activity or school sport, that student will not be allowed to stay in the school building. Buses will be running their regular routes, only 45 minutes earlier on Early Release Wednesdays.
New Communication Tool - ParentSquare: MVCSC is launching a new communication tool called ParentSquare for all school, grade level and classroom information. ParentSquare is designed to keep parents informed and facilitate participation at school. Parents/guardians should be on the lookout for an activation code sent to them in early July. ParentSquare syncs with Skyward so parents/guardians should make sure that they have verified their contact information in Skyward.
MVCSC Apps: As an MV parent/guardian, staff member, or student, these are some apps that will be extremely beneficial throughout the school year:
Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation - Use this app for access to our staff directory, district news, quick links, menus, and more
Don’t Miss the Bus - Use this app to follow your child’s bus GPS and know when to send your child to the bus stop.
ParentSquare - This will become a primary communication tool for communication with all our schools, teachers & parents. Parents will receive an activation code in July. Students should upload the StudentSquare app instead of ParentSquare
Food Assistance: MVCSC is dedicated to helping the community and those in need. Therefore, MVCSC will be hosting a Gleaners Summer Meal Box Program. Those in need can drive through door #7 at Mt. Vernon High School to receive a Summer Box with non-perishable food, meats, and more during the dates and times listed below.
