Each of the Mt. Vernon schools raised $1,000 for the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation in a matching challenge set by the Hancock County Community Foundation (HCCF). Over $5,000 was raised through community gifts from January 1- February 28 by the Mt. Vernon district which was then matched with $7,500 by HCCF. Thanks to the student ambassadors leading the charge and everyone's support, $12,500 will be given to the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation which supports all Mt. Vernon schools/students by providing additional enriching educational opportunities.
Mt. Vernon staff celebrated this achievement and Hancock County's birthday on March 1st by wearing the "Happy Birthday Hancock County" t-shirts. The HCCF gave all Mt. Vernon staff t-shirts in honor of the county's birthday and to kick off the foundation matching challenge.
