Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is proud to announce that Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) has been ranked one of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best High Schools” in 2022. MVHS sits in the top 40% of the nation’s high schools and is now ranked15th in the Indianapolis metro area. Additionally, Mt. Vernon was ranked #46 out of all high schools in Indiana. The 2022 edition of Best High Schools includes a numerical ranking of nearly all public high schools nationwide – almost 18,000 of them. See the full U.S. News & World Report on Mt. MVHS Principal, Mr. Casey Dodd, comments, "Receiving recognition like this for our school is always a wonderful thing as it is just one more representation of how hard our students and teachers work to achieve excellence. I do have to say that this year's ranking is extra special considering the challenges we all faced with the pandemic.  I could not be more proud to be a part of the Marauder family!"

For this accolade, the U.S. News & World Report uses data from the 2020-2021, 2019-2020 and 2018-2019  school years. During these years, the calculated AP® participation rate at Mt Vernon High School was 45% and the college readiness index was at 35.5. The college readiness index rank is based on the proportions of seniors who took and passed at least one AP exam. MVHS students’ National Percentile on College-level AP Exams was an incredible 82.9%. The graduation rate was 98%, averaging well above the state median.

The methodology in ranking the schools included collecting data from the nation’s state departments of education and used public high schools that had 12th grade enrollment of 15 or greater.  The Common Core of Data, College Board (particularly for the AP test data), International Baccalaureate data, and the statewide accountability proficiency test results were used as measurements for school data.

Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is proud to share the success of Mt. Vernon High School's students, staff and leadership.
