Mt. Vernon Schools turned their September 25 eLearning Day into an annual Community Service Day. Mt. Vernon High School and Mt. Vernon Middle School students were given the opportunity to give back to their community through various service projects. Over forty students signed up to spend three hours of their eLearning Day serving the community in a variety of ways.
The students were assigned one of six locations throughout the community, offering many different activities. Many students went to Hancock Wellness Center, where they rotated between cleaning equipment and interacting with kids in daycare. Some also went to Fortville or McCordsville Park where they helped with upkeep by raking leaves, picking up trash, and moving wood planks. Other students did activities with senior citizens at Traditions at Brookside, helped younger students with homework at Outlook Church, or read to children at Fortville Public Library.
Mt. Vernon Community would like to thank Vernon Township, McCordsville Park & Cemetery, Fortville Park, Fortville Public Library, Outlook Church, Hancock Wellness Center, and Traditions at Brookside for requesting Mt. Vernon’s hard-working students to help their organization.
