The music department at Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) has recently been awarded with the coveted Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) All-Music Award for the 2018-2019 school year. MVHS is one of only 14 high schools in the state of Indiana to earn a Total Department Award in 2019.
The band program at MVHS has earned the All-Band award multiple times in previous years, and the MVHS choir department qualified for the All-Choral Award for the first time this year. Both of these are a requirement to earn the All-Music Award.
“I am really proud of the award because I think the achievement not only represents the quality we are producing here at MVHS but also that our music department is well rounded,” says Ms. Jackie Nason, MVHS Band Director. “I always tell our students that we should be excellent in everything we do, and this award is a testament to the students’ efforts in creating that culture.”
The MVHS a cappella group, “Locked Out,” was given a Gold rating at the ISSMA Vocal Jazz Contest. This was a notable accomplishment in helping to earn the All-Music Award.
“We are very proud that the choral department was able to help the music department reach this achievement, showing that we provide an excellent music program at MVHS,” says Ms. Leigh Anderson, MVHS choir teacher.
Congratulations to the dedicated teachers and talented students that worked tirelessly to win the ISSMA All-Music award!
