The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation recently hosted a legislative breakfast focused on education topics with panelists Speaker Bosma, Senator Crider, and Representative Cherry. Leaders from all school districts in the county attended, as well as a few districts bordering our county.

Several very important topics were discussed, including a balanced state budget, increased protections for our youth, strengthened commitments to students and teachers, workforce initiatives, and the support of Hoosier veterans.
One proposed piece of legislation that was discussed offers $1 million in grants to schools that partner with approved postsecondary educational institutions and implement residency training for teachers. The program would pair aspiring educators with veteran teachers for a full year in order to gain valuable classroom experience and provide mentorship.

The lively discussion was appreciated by all attendees and proved to be a fruitful exchange of commonalities and developments in education. The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation appreciates Speaker Bosma, Senator Crider and Representative Cherry taking time out of their busy schedule to listen and share information on the educational challenges with the greater Hancock County education constituents.
