The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) has partnered with the Fortville Entrepreneurship Initiative to offer a startup pitch competition for high school students and entrepreneurs in the community. This startup pitch competition event is for high school students, nonprofits, and area startups with the goal to foster an entrepreneurial mindset in our community and provide a forum to share big ideas. Entrepreneur ideas pitched that night will be in part funded by the audience’s selection.
The community can attend the Big Ideas Pitch Competition event with a $10 ticket that can be purchased at www.mvcsc.k12.in.us/1/content/entrepreneur. The price includes dinner with a pitch team and a portion of the ticket price will help fund an entrepreneur’s idea of their choice.
The competition will have three categories:
- Social Entrepreneurship (students or community members with non-profit ideas) - 3-5 minute pitch
- Emerging Entrepreneur (students with for-profit ideas) - 5-7 minute pitch
- Entrepreneur (community members with for-profit ideas) 7-10 minute pitch
High school students and entrepreneurs can participate by applying at www.mvcsc.k12.in.us/1/content/entrepreneur.
Applications are due by November 5, and finalists will be notified by November 12. Student finalists are required to attend the “Breakfast with an Entrepreneur” event on November 30 at Mt. Vernon High School to help prepare their pitch. It is to the entrepreneur’s benefit to have many people in attendance on December 5, as each attendee will choose what idea to help fund.

About The Fortville Entrepreneurship Initiative: The future of Fortville's economy and its contribution to Indiana’s continued success will be driven by entrepreneurship and innovation. With Fortville’s Entrepreneurship Initiative, area stakeholders and advisors experienced in and passionate about building a welcoming start-up culture will now recognize and more formally support the entrepreneurial talents of Fortville and surrounding Hancock County residents and businesses. This Initiative is designed to create connection, excitement, and focus in our localized ecosystem. Our audience is typically made up of Entrepreneurs (start-ups, local growing businesses, and idea generators), as well as Stakeholders (local businesses, quasi- and government bodies, academia, circles of residents interested in promoting economic
development, and small business advisors); all of whom greatly benefit from this Initiative.
