Mt. Vernon Schools serves many amazing students, not only through academics, but also in teaching the importance of community service work and giving to others in need. One student, Hunter Lenk, has gone above and beyond to help homeless people in the community stay warm during the winter.
Hunter Lenk is a fourth grader at Mt. Comfort Elementary who started his own non-profit organization in 2014 called Hunters Hugs. Hunters Hugs collects blankets for homeless people in the community so they can keep warm when the cold weather comes in the winter. Last year, Hunters Hugs collected 939 blankets and he hopes to be able to collect even more this year!
Hunter’s charity organization has taught him never to take anything for granted. He wants to do everything he can to help those less fortunate, and unfortunately when winter comes, many people will be freezing everyday. He wants to give back and help those people so they have supplies to be warm during the winter. Hunter understands the importance of helping his community and giving to those in need which is one reason why Mt. Vernon takes so much pride in its students and the efforts they take to help the community.
