Andrew Roembke, a member of the Mt. Vernon High School Band directed by Derek Ellinger, has been awarded participation in the Fifty-Seventh Annual Indiana All-State High School Band Festival sponsored by the Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA). This is Roembke's second year to participate in the All-State Band, and the first year to be selected for the All-State Honor Band.
Roembke earned this honor by participating in a highly competitive audition held in early January at nine centers across Indiana. Over 600 talented young musicians applied to audition. A selection committee then reviewed recordings from each center. One hundred seventy-three outstanding students from fifty-two high schools have been selected for participation in the 2017 Festival. Alfred Watkins, Director of Bands, Lassiter HS (GA) (retired), will direct the 86-piece Indiana All-State Band.
In addition to the regular Indiana All-State Band, there is a select Honor Band, in which Roembke has been selected for. Captain Michelle Rakers, Assistant Conductor for the United States Marine Band "The President's Own," will direct the 87-member Indiana All-State Honor Band.
All members will participate in a series of activities including seating auditions, sectionals and full rehearsals from Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12. A free grand finale concert will be presented to the public on Sunday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the Elliott Hall of Music on the Purdue University-West Lafayette campus.
Ellinger stated, "The Honor Band is Indiana's premier All-State ensemble. To be selected as a Junior for this honor is remarkable and demonstrates his high level of talent. We are extremely proud of Andrew's hard work and accomplishments."
