MVHS Lilly Scholarship Finalists: Frost & Schleter

Lilly Scholarship Finalists

The 2016-2017 Mt. Vernon High School Lilly Endowment finalists were honored at the Mt. Vernon School Board Meeting on November 21.  Emily Frost and Meg Schleter were selected anonymously by a panel of Hancock County Community Foundation (HCCF) judges.  Frost and Schleter are exceptional representatives from Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) due to their multitude of accomplishments and plethora of community contributions.


The HCCF selects two finalists for each of the four Hancock County schools. Eligible applicants must be ranked in the top 15% of their graduating class and plan to pursue a four-year baccalaureate course of study at any accredited Indiana college/university.  The final eight Lilly Endowment finalists were interviewed by a volunteer committee identified by the HCCF.  The winning candidate from the eight finalists will have a four-year college tuition and annual book stipend paid in full by the Lilly Foundation. 


Mt. Vernon High School Principal, Greg Roach, introduced both of the finalists at the School Board meeting.  “Both candidates are an excellent representation of leadership, academics, as well as demonstrate the power of impacting the community through their multitude of service projects.” 


Emily Frost is ranked sixth in her class of 271 students.  She is involved in: Book Club, Concert Band, Pep Band, Lettuce Club, Fall Color Guard, Winter Color Guard, Cadet Color Guard, Madison Park Church of God and is the Spanish Club Treasurer, as well as the National Honor Society Treasurer.  She volunteers for Upward Sports, SLAM Missions, Riley Dance Marathon, Missions in Peru, Vacation Bible School, Gleaner's Food Bank and Relay for Life.  She is the daughter of Mark and Amy Frost.


Meg Schleter is ranked fifth in her class and is a member of: Student Government, National Honor Society, AfriCAN, Marauder Mentoring, Best Buddies, Spirit Club, Lettuce Club, Cheerleading and Track.  She participates in 4-H and is a volunteer at reTails Animal Shelter, PAWS Animal Shelter, Step Out, Walk to Fight Diabetes and Relay for Life.  She is the daughter of Kurt and Peggy Schleter.


Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is proud to share in the accomplishments of these two amazing Mt. Vernon High School students, and wish them much good fortune in their undoubtedly successful futures.
