The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation celebrated Veteran's Day at each of the five schools, honoring all those who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
All three Mt. Vernon elementary schools and the middle school honored veterans with a convocation emphasizing the sacrifice veterans have made. The convocations included patriotic songs and videos, as well as moving speeches and videos. Veterans in attendance greatly appreciated the recognition.
The high school honored our military Veterans by showing a presentation which included the high school staff that have served in the military, as well as a tribute video to our servicemen.
Mt. Vernon Middle School asked veterans in attendance to share their name, years of service, and which student(s) they were representing. Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins, currently serving in the U.S. Army National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel, spoke briefly and thanked his fellow veterans for their service.
Fortville Elementary School showed their support with red carnations for veterans and a student-lined parade with American flags. McCordsville Elementary School had a packed house with Dr. Robbins also in attendance. Mt. Comfort Elementary School had several presentations, including a local boy scout troop and a Mt. Vernon graduate/veteran. All veterans received letters written by students thanking them for their service.
THANK YOU VETERANS FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY!
