Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation’s first "Delayed Start Wednesday" was deemed successful by both students and staff. In each building, staff participated in professional development activities using Professional Learning Communities, or better known as PLCs. This learning initiative will allow MVCSC staff to engage in meaningful training to support both school and district improvement initiatives.
While the staff was busy in their PLCs, some elementary students participated in classroom learning experiences utilizing their iPads, while others at Fortville Elementary School participated in a program provided by the school social worker. Each school will coordinate their own student activities, for students who arrive on time, during Delayed Start Wednesdays.
Students at Mt. Vernon High School that arrived at the regular time (via car or bus) reported to one of six areas in the building: auditorium, main gymnasium, gymnasium lobby, main hall corridor, downstairs A wing corridor, upstairs A wing corridor, or the media center. Students remained in that area utilizing their Chromebook for homework until 9:10 a.m.
Delayed Start Wednesdays will continue throughout the 2015-2016 school year. For specific school information on Delayed Start Wednesdays please visit the “1:1 Plan” tab on www.mvcsc.k12.in.us or contact the building principal.
MVCSC is excited to implement our student 1:1 computing initiative while at the same time provide our staff with professional development opportunities to continue to challenge students and offer an exceptional academic experience.
