FFA Provides Staff Lunch

The Mt. Vernon High School National Art Society students honored United States Veterans with a mural in the high school. Several hours were spent designing and painting the details.

  • Congratulations to the Gold Intensity Dance Team! The team competed in the  IHSDTA southern regional.  They are the south regional AA Pom Champions and Kendra Hannah, McKenna Jones, and Alyjah Duff are Small Ensemble Champions.  McKenna Jones finished 3rd in senior solo and qualified for state finals.  The team also finished second in AA jazz and hip hop.
  • Do you want to do well on the SAT?  MT. Vernon H.S. will be offering an SAT Prep class during the month of April.  The class is on Mondays and Wednesdays for 1 and 1/2 hours after school.  The cost is $95.  Class size is limited so pick up a blue flyer in the Guidance Office  for more information and get signed up ASAP.  The deadline to sign-up is March 13th as materials have to be ordered.

  • 20 band students earned gold medals at Solo & Ensemble State Finals this past Saturday. The band's next event will be Winter Guard State Prelims this Saturday at Decatur Central High School. If they advance, it will be the first time the Mt. Vernon Winter Guard has made it to state finals."

  • There will be at softball call out meeting during SRT in D104 Tuesday, March 3 for any girl interested in playing softball this spring.
  • Penny wars:

    -National Honor Society will be hosting Penny Wars

    -It will be held from March 2nd to March 6th

    -Buckets can be found during lunch at Penny Wars table

    -The grade with the most money by the end of the week will get to skip a final this nine weeks

    -All money goes to support Riley Children's Hospital

    -May the wars be ever in your favor

  • Are you having trouble with Spanish? Plan to attend Senora Laughlin's SRT every Thursday in room A108 for help with Spanish. AP Spanish students will be there to assist you... and it is free tutoring!
  • This week is “Choose Kind” week.  It promotes anti-bullying and kindness.  There will be a theme for every day:  


    • Wed - Wonderful Wednesday (stay positive all day)

      Thursday - Thoughtful Thursday (be nice)

      Friday - Free Hug Friday

      At lunch there will be a table to pledge to choose kind and donate to Kids Against Hunger, an organization that works to bring meals to hungry children. 

  • Students who are eligible to vote may register to do so during lunch on Tuesday, March 3rd. Look for the  table in the cafeteria.

  • Baseball and softball sign ups for the Mt. Vernon Optimist program registration runs thru April 9th. .  Baseball is for kids aged 13 thru 18. The cost for registration is $90 now thru March 30th and $105 from April 1st thru the 9th. Softball sign ups for girls 14 and under.  Registration for softball runs thru March 7th and the cost is $90 from now until Feb 28th and $105 from March 1st thru March 8th.
