MVCSC Brings International Exposure to Students

The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) is on a mission to expand students' world views and provide cross-culture experiences.  The Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) Mandarin Chinese Teacher, Yi-Fan Lin from Taiwan, recently offered a Chinese New Year celebration for students to engage in various Chinese activities.  Another recent international experience was having Yan Long, a visitor from China, share her Chinese culture with McCordsville Elementary School (MES) students.

At the Chinese New Year celebration, MVHS students could experience Chinese dumplings, paper cutting, take pictures wearing authentic Chinese costumes, practice writing Chinese symbols and see a Lion Dance.  Students also enjoyed playing the "chop sticks game" where they passed different objects around in a circle using only chop sticks.

Yan Long is an English teacher and an interpreter from China who visited MVCSC.  She stayed with MES Principal Stephanie Miller for four days.  Long introduced herself to all the students at a welcoming convocation at MES.  She visited each classroom, interacting with the students, experiencing how American students are taught and sharing her Chinese culture.

MVCSC is proud to broaden students' experiences of international cultures and anticipates many other cross-cultural experiences in the future with the expansion of the international exchange program.
