7 TIPS FOR MATH

SUCCESS

  1. Be assertive in your understanding of Math.  Do not be afraid to ask questions in class or come up to Mr. Williams' desk for an explanation of a certain problem/concept.
  1. Take detailed notes!  Write down step-by-step the example problems that Mr. Williams explains in class.
  1. Do not skip steps!  Sometimes skipping steps can lead you to silly mistakes and wrong answers.  Follow the same steps in your notes or in the textbook.
  1. Show your work!  Mental Math skills are important but do not try to do every problem and step in your head.
  1. Stay calm and please do not panic!  If you are doing homework and you and your parents do not understand a certain question, please do not spend all night frustrated.  Talk to Mr. Williams the following school day and ask him to explain the problem and answer.
  1. Remember the "odds" answers are in the back of the textbook.  Use the odd problems with the odd answers to help you better analyze the even problems.
  1. Prepare for the Tests and Quizzes!  Use the Chapter Reviews and Chapter Tests within the textbook as a way to measure how well you know the material.  If you know how to do the problems accurately on the Chapter Reviews and Chapter Tests, then the quizzes and tests will be much easier.
