Tips for Parents

PARENTS: Even though your child is gaining more independence in high school, you still play a VERY important role in the academic success of your child. Do NOT underestimate your significance. Below are some tips to help your child succeed.
1. Maintain High Expectations - Show your child that you value education!
2. Check Grades - Hold your child accountable....this is easy to do with STI Home+. (If you need a PIN to access STI Home+, please contact our registrar, Mrs. Rains).
3. Communicate with Teachers - Don't be afraid to contact your child's teachers. They are here to help your child succeed.
4. Emphasize Homework Completion - Homework is just as important as exams. It is a way to regularly monitor a student's understanding of the course material. Make sure your child is not falling behind in daily homework.
5. Ask for Help - We are here to help! Let us know if you have a concern, and we can work together to address the concern before it escalates.
6. Attend Parent Meetings - These information nights are very important! Please plan to attend. If you are unable to attend, contact the Guidance Department (or have your student stop by) to collect the proper handouts that were distributed at the meeting.
7. Stay Involved - Even if you feel like your efforts are going unnoticed by your child....don't give up! It is crucial to stay involved. If your child does not appreciate your efforts now...they will in the future. You make a difference!
