English Immersion Exchange Opportunities:
Two Week Summer Camp - Students will experience a brief yet fulfilling two weeks living in Fortville as Mt. Vernon High School Students. Activities are scheduled to experience the culture and diversity of Indiana.
Semester Experience - Exchange students will enjoy learning in the classrooms of Mt. Vernon High School and experiencing the American education system. Multiple student activities are available to become involved. Mt. Vernon High School semesters are August through December and January through May.
Full Year Student Exchange - Students are able to truly engage in the American culture and experience the complete English immersion. Students have a multitude of educational opportunities and extracurricular opportunities available throughout the school year. The Mt. Vernon High School full school year calendar is August through May.
Safety is a Priority
In Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation, safety is the number one priority for all students and staff. Student safety is administered with the practice of protecting all children as if they are their own. Here are a few of the safety practices:
- Video surveillance throughout the schools
- "Lobby Guard" to screen all school visitors
- Administrators trained annually as School Safety Specialists through the Indiana Department of Education
- All staff have key cards to allow entry into their building

Academic Challenges & Meaningful Activities
Mt. Vernon High School offered 14 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and 17 Dual-Credit courses in the 2015-2016 school year. The blended learning environment uses innovative educational programming in our 1:1 technology-infused environment (one computer device for every student), At Mt. Vernon High School, all students have Chromebooks.
Graduating class sizes are approximately 300 students which allow for a personal, yet challenging academic experience. Mt. Vernon High School's graduation rates are consistently higher than the state average, most recently at 95% (compared to the state average of 88%).
Students' lives are enhanced when they are engaged in extracurriculars and meaningful activities. Mt. Vernon High School offers:
- 19 varsity sports
- Fine arts opportunities in choral, instrumental, theatre & art
- Many non-athletic clubs/organizations available to everyone
- Academic teams and local competitions
Living in Fortville, Indiana
Students will reside in a dormitory that is being developed just minutes from Mt. Vernon High School. The dormitory will have a boys' and girls' wing, with a residents assistant housed in between.
Fortville offers a small-town charm just minutes from the downtown metropolis of Indianapolis. Fortville is a safe network of small businesses and friendly people. Local parks, delicious restaurants and activities are enjoyed by the family-friendly town of Fortville, located in the state of Indiana.
