Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) is filled with talented students who apply their STEM skills in a variety of ways. The MVHS Tech Crew is using their knowledge in technology to provide a variety of production visuals which will dramatically enhance the next theatre production.
The MVHS theater department is starting to prepare for their next show, “The Little Mermaid,” that will be performed from April 26 to April 29. The MVHS Tech Crew combines artistry, technology, and engineering to make the show successful.
The MVHS Tech Crew is writing Open Sound Control (OSC) commands to build an internal network which allows the sound, light, and video cues to "talk" to each other. In “The Little Mermaid,” there are over 1,000 cues, each with dozens of commands. This production will also include holographic projections, surround sound audio, and projection mapping which shows how much hard work is being put in to make the show successful.
“Between set construction, show programming, lighting, video, and audio, all of the tech crew students utilize at least one STEM principle every day,” stated Andrew Okerson, the MVHS Drama Director and Auditorium Manager. The Tech Crew and the abundance of technology being used are playing a very important role in the production of “The Little Mermaid”.
The MVHS Tech Crew is just one of the many impressive programs that is offered at Mt. Vernon High School. Come and watch “The Little Mermaid” to see the efforts that the talented Mt. Vernon students put into the production, both in technology and acting.
