Mt. Vernon High School hosted its inaugural 2017 Mt. Vernon High School Career Fair on Thursday, September 14, 2017.
The Career Fair was open to all Mt. Vernon High School juniors and seniors and they were called down throughout the event to check out all of the company booths. It provided a great opportunity to link employers to students while giving students direct access to internships, part-time and/or summer jobs, and full-time employment.
This event also provided the students with the opportunity to meet employers around the community so that they could ask them questions about jobs, internships and what kind of employee they're looking for. Students were also able to use this opportunity to network with local businesses and see what all is out there for employment opportunities.
The students interacted with the businesses and made connections with the employers to help find a job or career interest that is in the local area. It was a chance for students to better their networking abilities and practice face-to-face socializing in the business world.
The Career Fair hosted 42 businesses that set up their booths around the gym for students to walk around and interact with the employers. The students were able to spend 45 minutes talking to businesses and made connections with employers.
Scott Shipley, the Director of Secondary Education, plans to host the career fair again next year and maybe even twice a year if there is a demand for it.
