MES Teacher & Student Donate Hair for Cancer Patients

Teacher & Student holding Hair

McCordsville Elementary School (MES) First Grade Teacher, Karen Feder, and her former student, Kalin Wallpe, recently cut 12 inches of their hair off during school for a good cause.  They donated their 12" ponytails to an organization called Wigs for Kids.  Feder raffled off the hair-cutting opportunity in the school fundraiser and Kalin joined forces.

Feder had donated her hair approximately four years ago and tried to make this year's donation even bigger at MES.  She mentioned in passing to Kalin that she was raffling off the opportunity to cut her hair to donate it to Wigs for Kids. Kalin jumped on the opportunity to be a part of the philanthropic activity and help other children in need.  Her parents supported her initiative and said it was absolutely her decision.

Cutting Mrs. Feder's Hair

The Wigs for Kids organization was selected because they provide their wigs free for children who need a wig due to chemo, radiation, burns or other medical conditions that cause hair loss.  Feder also liked that the organization supports children; since she is a teacher it seemed a perfect fit.

During the raffle, Kalin's father entered tickets on behalf of Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins and MES Principal, Mrs. Stephanie Miller.  Principal Miller's name was drawn to cut Kalin's hair.  Another student, Maiyan Bair, won the opportunity to cut Mrs. Feder's hair.

The Mt. Vernon community is proud to support these individuals who set a great example to others about the importance of helping those in need.  Character runs strong at Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation!
