The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is achieving academic excellence and has recently been awarded an “A” District by the Indiana Department of Education. Within the school corporation, three of its schools have also received an “A” rating: Mt. Vernon High School, McCordsville Elementary, and Fortville Elementary.
Mt. Vernon is data-driven and has shown improvement in test scores and results. In one year, Mt. Vernon Schools has improved its ISTEP passing rate by 6.6%. From the 2015-16 to the 2016-17 school year, Mt. Vernon ISTEP scores grew from a 52.6% to a 59.2% passing rate. With a passing rate of 59.2% on ISTEP for the 2016-17 school year, the corporation continues to exceed the state average passing rate which was 51.4% the same year.
The below shows how staff monitored each individual student’s progress and testing growth. Each school had data boards to focus on individual academic assessments. Mt. Vernon is the perfect size school to have a multitude of educational and extracurricular opportunities, while small enough to provide personal attention.
Mt. Vernon schools are continuing to grow and improve in many ways to provide the best opportunities for its students. With new S.T.E.M. programs, students are learning through hands-on activities and using their creativity to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and math. Mt. Vernon’s 1:1 digital learning initiative provides a 21st-century learning experience that equips students for their future in a world where technology is an integral part of virtually every aspect of their daily lives.
