Mt. Vernon High School Senior Trevor Bond is continuing to devote his kicking season to his philanthropic dreams of helping cure pediatric cancer. In two years, Bond has raised over $2,600 dollars for pediatric cancer research, and the number is continuing to climb.
Last year was his first year to raise funds for the Kick-It.org for pediatric cancer research and he raised over $1,600. He dedicated his campaign last year to another Mt. Vernon student who was battling cancer. (Thankfully, the student is doing well and in remission.) This year’s campaign is over $1,000 and is climbing. Bond’s family, like many, has been affected by cancer, which impacted his decision to participate in this fundraiser when he was approached last year at a kicking camp.
Bond said if he can do anything in his power to help others, he will jump at the chance. Philanthropic efforts run deep in his childhood, as his family participates in charitable efforts frequently. This decision to participate in the Kick-It.org was easy for Trevor; it combines two things he loves and works hard at - kicking and helping others.
The “Kick Children’s Cancer with Trevor Bond” campaign is important to Bond. He has made several social media posts to raise the funds, asked his team and football parents for support, as well as his extended family. Announcements are made at the home football games promoting the campaign, and his parents purchased a banner on the fence to support his efforts. The MVHS Athletic Boosters Club also hosted a successful bake sale at a game and raised $276 for the campaign.
His kicking dedication and hard work has made his talent thrive. Bond’s goal is to study business in college and hopes to achieve a kicking scholarship. Currently (as of 10-18-2017), he has scored 23 points this season, and he’s not done yet. He is hoping that as his points climb, his Kick-It.org campaign will climb as well. His goal is to raise $2,000 this year.
